Subject: RE: Request to be heard at Secretary of State continuation of November 15th JBC hearing
Rep. Buescher,
Thank you for your prompt response to our request to be heard.
Would it help to change your decision if you agreed that we are not an advocacy group, and we do have content that relates directly to the budgetary considerations?
1. We believe that canvass board members, poll watchers, election judges, candidates and issue petitioners are legal entities that have a vested place in the discussion of the election system. To authorize a voting system expenditure without considering the critical requirements of these entities and that does not meet their requirements is to disallow independent oversight of the election system.
2. Information currently available suggests that the voter registration database and election administration system, as well as the voting and vote counting methodology, equipment and procedures, are inadequate to support the needs of a transparent, verifiable election. To allow election officials to go forward with a system that fails to meet the minimum requirements of these legal entities is to disallow the oversight needed to ensure a trustworthy election.
If you prefer that we make a 20-minute presentation on a Tuesday or Thursday we are happy to do so, as long as committee members are present and it is not too late for our information to be absorbed into the decision process.
We are happy to work with you and the committee in any way that we can to ensure that the necessary resources are available to conduct a transparent and verifiable election.
